This Privacy Statement explains which personal data the European Office collects through this website, why, for how long, and how you can exercise your rights under the GDPR and the Spanish LOPDGDD.
1. Who is responsible for your data (controller)
The controller of the personal data collected through this website is the European Office of the Church of Scientology for Public Affairs and Human Rights (Oficina Europea de la Iglesia de Scientology para Asuntos Públicos y Derechos Humanos), a Spanish religious association (asociación) with registered office at Calle del Prado 27, 5º Izda, 28014 Madrid, Spain, registered with the Special Registry of Religious Entities of the Spain Ministry of Justice under No. 024742, and with an operational office at Boulevard de Waterloo 103, 1000 Brussels, Belgium. This statement is provided in accordance with Articles 13 and 14 of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679, “GDPR”) and Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights (“LOPDGDD”).
2. What data we process and why
Contact form. When you write to us through the “Request information” form we process your name, email address and the content of your message, solely to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is your consent, given by sending the form (Art. 6.1.a GDPR), and our legitimate interest in responding to requests addressed to the office (Art. 6.1.f GDPR). Messages are delivered to our email inbox; they are not stored in the website database, published, or used for any other purpose.
Comments. If comments are enabled on an article and you choose to leave one, we process the data shown in the comment form (name, email and comment), your IP address and browser user-agent string to help spam detection. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6.1.a GDPR).
Newsletter. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we process your email address to send you our news by email, on the basis of your consent (Art. 6.1.a GDPR), which is confirmed through a double opt-in message before the subscription becomes active. We keep a record of your consent (its text, date and the IP address used) as proof of lawfulness (Art. 7 GDPR). You can withdraw your consent at any time with the unsubscribe link included in every email, or by writing to contactinfo@scientologyeurope.org; your address is then deactivated immediately and, on request, erased completely (Art. 17 GDPR).
Security and anti-spam. To protect the site from abuse, our systems may process your IP address in server security logs and in the anti-spam mechanisms of the forms (rate limiting). The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure (Art. 6.1.f GDPR). These logs are kept only as long as necessary for security purposes.
Cookies. The data collected through cookies is described in our Cookie Policy. Non-essential cookies are only set after you have given consent through the cookie banner.
3. How long we keep your data
Contact messages are kept in our inbox only for the time needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up, and in any case no longer than the legal limitation periods that may apply. Comments and their metadata are kept while the comment remains published, so follow-up comments can be recognised automatically. Security logs are rotated and deleted within a maximum of 12 months.
4. Who receives your data
We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. Your data may be processed on our behalf by service providers acting as data processors under Article 28 GDPR — our hosting provider (which stores the site and its logs) and our email provider (which delivers contact messages) — under contracts that oblige them to protect your data and act only on our instructions.
This site links to third-party websites (for example scientologynews.org, scientology.tv, scientology.org, freedommag.org and social networks). If you follow those links or interact with their embedded content, those sites may process your data under their own privacy policies, for which we are not responsible.
5. International transfers
Our website and email are hosted within the European Economic Area. If a service provider ever processes data outside the EEA, we will ensure an adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards under Chapter V GDPR (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) are in place before the transfer takes place.
6. Your rights
You have the right to request access to your personal data, its rectification or erasure, the restriction of or objection to its processing, and its portability, as well as the right to withdraw your consent at any time (without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal). You also have the right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing that significantly affect you — we do not carry out such processing.

If you consider that we have not handled your data correctly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos — AEPD), C/ Jorge Juan 6, 28001 Madrid, www.aepd.es, or with the supervisory authority of your country of residence.
7. Special categories of data
This website does not ask you for data revealing religious beliefs or any other special category of data (Art. 9 GDPR). If you choose to include such information in a message you send us voluntarily, it will be processed only to handle your message, on the basis of your explicit consent demonstrated by providing it, and with the guarantees of Organic Law 7/1980 on Religious Freedom.
8. Changes to this statement
We may update this Privacy Statement to reflect legal or operational changes. The current version is always the one published on this page, with its revision date at the top. We encourage you to review it periodically.

La presente declaración se facilita de conformidad con los artículos 13 y 14 del Reglamento General de Protección de Datos (Reglamento (UE) 2016/679, “RGPD”) y la Ley Orgánica 3/2018, de Protección de Datos Personales y garantía de los derechos digitales (“LOPDGDD”).
2. Qué datos tratamos y con qué finalidad
Formulario de contacto. Cuando nos escribe a través del formulario “Solicitar información” tratamos su nombre, su dirección de correo electrónico y el contenido de su mensaje, con la única finalidad de responder a su consulta. La base jurídica es su consentimiento, manifestado al enviar el formulario (art. 6.1.a RGPD), y nuestro interés legítimo en atender las solicitudes dirigidas a la oficina (art. 6.1.f RGPD). Los mensajes se entregan en nuestro buzón de correo; no se almacenan en la base de datos del sitio web, ni se publican, ni se utilizan para ninguna otra finalidad.
Comentarios. Si los comentarios están habilitados en un artículo y decide dejar uno, tratamos los datos mostrados en el formulario de comentarios (nombre, correo electrónico y comentario), su dirección IP y la cadena de agente de usuario del navegador para ayudar a la detección de spam. La base jurídica es su consentimiento (art. 6.1.a RGPD).
Boletín informativo. Si se suscribe a nuestro boletín, tratamos su dirección de correo electrónico para enviarle nuestras noticias, sobre la base de su consentimiento (art. 6.1.a RGPD), que se confirma mediante un mensaje de doble confirmación (double opt-in) antes de que la suscripción quede activa. Conservamos un registro de su consentimiento (su texto, la fecha y la dirección IP utilizada) como prueba de la licitud del tratamiento (art. 7 RGPD). Puede retirar su consentimiento en cualquier momento mediante el enlace de baja incluido en cada correo, o escribiendo a contactinfo@scientologyeurope.org; su dirección se desactiva de inmediato y, a petición suya, se suprime por completo (art. 17 RGPD).
Seguridad y antispam. Para proteger el sitio frente a abusos, nuestros sistemas pueden tratar su dirección IP en los registros de seguridad del servidor y en los mecanismos antispam de los formularios (limitación de frecuencia). La base jurídica es nuestro interés legítimo en mantener la seguridad del servicio (art. 6.1.f RGPD). Estos registros se conservan solo el tiempo necesario con fines de seguridad.
Cookies. Los datos recogidos a través de cookies se describen en nuestra Política de Cookies. Las cookies no esenciales solo se instalan después de que haya prestado su consentimiento mediante el banner de cookies.
3. Cuánto tiempo conservamos sus datos
Los mensajes de contacto se conservan en nuestro buzón solo durante el tiempo necesario para atender su consulta y su seguimiento, y en cualquier caso no más allá de los plazos legales de prescripción que pudieran resultar de aplicación. Los comentarios y sus metadatos se conservan mientras el comentario permanezca publicado, para poder reconocer automáticamente los comentarios sucesivos. Los registros de seguridad se rotan y eliminan en un plazo máximo de 12 meses.
4. Quién recibe sus datos
No vendemos, alquilamos ni compartimos sus datos personales con terceros para fines propios. Sus datos pueden ser tratados por encargo nuestro por proveedores de servicios que actúan como encargados del tratamiento conforme al artículo 28 RGPD — nuestro proveedor de alojamiento web (que almacena el sitio y sus registros) y nuestro proveedor de correo electrónico (que entrega los mensajes de contacto) — en virtud de contratos que les obligan a proteger sus datos y a actuar únicamente siguiendo nuestras instrucciones.
Este sitio enlaza a sitios web de terceros (por ejemplo scientologynews.org, scientology.tv, scientology.org, freedommag.org y redes sociales). Si sigue esos enlaces o interactúa con sus contenidos incrustados, dichos sitios pueden tratar sus datos conforme a sus propias políticas de privacidad, de las que no somos responsables.
5. Transferencias internacionales
Nuestro sitio web y correo electrónico se alojan dentro del Espacio Económico Europeo. Si algún proveedor de servicios llegara a tratar datos fuera del EEE, garantizaremos que exista una decisión de adecuación o garantías adecuadas conforme al Capítulo V del RGPD (como las Cláusulas Contractuales Tipo de la UE) antes de que se produzca la transferencia.

Usted tiene derecho a solicitar el acceso a sus datos personales, su rectificación o supresión, la limitación u oposición a su tratamiento y su portabilidad, así como a retirar su consentimiento en cualquier momento (sin que ello afecte a la licitud del tratamiento realizado antes de la retirada). También tiene derecho a no ser objeto de decisiones basadas únicamente en el tratamiento automatizado que le afecten significativamente; nosotros no realizamos dicho tratamiento.

7. Categorías especiales de datos
Este sitio web no le solicita datos que revelen convicciones religiosas ni ninguna otra categoría especial de datos (art. 9 RGPD). Si decide incluir voluntariamente dicha información en un mensaje que nos envíe, será tratada únicamente para atender su mensaje, sobre la base de su consentimiento explícito manifestado al facilitarla, y con las garantías de la Ley Orgánica 7/1980, de Libertad Religiosa.
