Brussels, 18 October 2025 — The European Office of the Church of Scientology for Public Affairs and Human Rights extends its sincere greetings and best wishes to Hindu communities across Europe and around the world as they begin celebrating Diwali, the five-day Festival of Lights, which runs this year from 18 to 22 October 2025.
Marking the new moon of the Hindu month of Kartika, Diwali is one of the most cherished festivals in Hinduism. It begins with Dhanteras and continues through Naraka Chaturdashi (Chhoti Diwali), Lakshmi Puja (the main day of Diwali), Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj, each day signifying themes of renewal, gratitude, prosperity, and the victory of light over darkness.
Across Europe (and the world over), temples, cultural associations, and families are joining in celebrations filled with lighted lamps, colorful decorations, traditional sweets, and prayers for well-being and peace. The festival’s spirit—honoring good deeds, self-improvement, and the unity of family and community—resonates far beyond religious boundaries.
“The message of Diwali—that light dispels darkness and that goodness ultimately prevails—finds an echo in the universal search for understanding that unites all people of goodwill,” said Ivan Arjona, representative of the Church of Scientology to the European Union, OSCE, Council of Europe and United Nations. “At a time when societies seek harmony and shared purpose, Diwali reminds us of our collective capacity for compassion, renewal, and peace.”
Founded by L. Ron Hubbard, the Church of Scientology upholds respect for all faiths and encourages cooperation among spiritual traditions. Mr Hubbard, in his most translated book The Way to Happiness, emphasized that the survival and advancement of humanity depend upon recognizing the spiritual nature of the individual and fostering mutual understanding among peoples of all beliefs.
Throughout Europe, Scientologists and their affiliated churches, missions and groups engage in interfaith dialogues, humanitarian actions, and educational programs that promote dignity and respect. On this occasion, the European Office of the Church of Scientology acknowledges the positive contribution of Hindu communities to Europe’s cultural and spiritual landscape.
As the lights of Diwali shine from London to Lisbon, from Ceuta to Tallinn, from Brussels and Oudenaarde to Bucharest, the European Office joins all who celebrate in wishing that the Festival of Lights bring renewed wisdom, joy, and unity to every home.
